WorldVision
WorldVision is an organization which understands the needs of the children today. Along with the Millenium Development Goals of United Nations, WorldVision aims to help children overcome poverty, aid them in terms of getting food, clean water, and immunization.WorldVision serves all people regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, and gender.
“if you give a man a fish, you help him for a meal but if you help teach him how to fish, you help him for life” – WorldVision
With these ambitious themes, the Malaysian Chapter of WorldVision has organized events such as
30-hour Famine is an annual event where people around the world collects donation to help children through poverty, food, clean water and immunization. Volunteers who had collected donations will then be able to join this 30-hours hunger that sends out a message to the rest of the world, like the event, Earth Hour
Gift Of Hope is a chance for anyone to present a gift to a child, be it for charity or out of abundant resources. The event provides a platform for many people to give away belongings which they do not use but may be very useful to the less fortunate children.
Sponsor A Child has been running for more than 5 years and is one of the main idea of WorldVision. Volunteers are given the opportunity to donate a certain amount of fund to one or more children that could use the money to help them through life. Many children in poor countries like Myanmar have to work to support their elderly who may have illness, disabilities, or are war victims.

The author’s experience at 30-hour Famine
It is normal to forget. I always have the tendency of forgetting my mum’s birthday… because it falls on the same day as my birthday. I use polysterene almost everyday when I had take-away during my university years because I wasn’t introduced to the dangers of non-biodegrable items.
Events like 30-hour Famine helps me remember why I should help unfortunate children and also on environmental issues like global warming and non-biodegradable materials like polysterene. I was also introduced to Kai Soung, a child from Vietnam who had to walk 2km just to get clean water. Although I still forget to have less beef to reduce commercialization of beef to reduce global warming or to bring my own food container when I want to order a take-away, I now forget less. WorldVision has been giving me ample chances to remember through 30h Famine.
As I also like to meet people (generally girls, because the author is desperately single and available), 30h Famine has given me a lot of friends all throughout my country as we gather and get to know each other during part of the activities within the event. There are indeed rare precious moments as the people who came to know me are all caring people, mostly those who wants to know more about 30-hour Famine and not only sit at home reading about the event (or just reading this article to know about 30-hour Famine). Learning is also two-way communication when others care about the same things that I do. Besides, I got to know Malaysia’s home-bred singer, William from 30-hours Famine 2007. Here are some pictures:
